Propaganda

My original propaganda idea was to tell people to drink chocolate milk because of how beneficial it can be for our health. My poster was inspired by a Chinese propaganda poster featuring the old Chinese leader Mao Zedong. In the original poster, Mao’s face is seen in the sun overlooking lots of sunflowers. Below the sunflowers were red words that mean something, but I do not know what they mean.

To recreate this image, I started off by using the shape tool to create a rectangle to fill the page with colors to match the background. I used the gradient tool to get the exact orange and yellow that I needed. Then, in my poster I put my own face in the sun by making stars with many points to create the sun and its rays. After that I placed my own self-portrait and changed the color palette  to match the original poster. Next up, I had to make the glasses of chocolate milk, so to do this I started off making triangles and then cutting them with rectangles and pathfinder to create the shape of the glass. To create the milk, I used pathfinder again to cut the right shape from a brown rectangle that would fit inside my glass shape to act as the milk. Copy and pasting allowed for me to fill the bottom of the poster with the glasses of chocolate milk. Lastly, I replaced the red Chinese words with “Drink Chocolate Milk!” to directly tell everyone what I wanted to say.
